How to Clean Your Horse Bit

One piece of equipment that seems to often be forgotten to keep clean and shiny is the horse’s bit – which is sort of funny because the bit is very easy to keep clean! So long as you keep up on it.

One super easy way to keep your bit clean, is to simply dunk it in some water after each use. This will help wash away all of the saliva or any feed stuffs that was left on the bit.

If you have some tougher or dried on gunk on your bit,  you can simply add a little Dawn Dish Soap to your water and use a sponge or cloth to scrub! Be sure to rinse off all of the soap, and dry with a towel.

If you are using one of our E-Z Care Bridles, like the English Bridle shown here, you can dunk the entire bridle in your soapy water for a quick clean up!

Before and After – like brand new!

This is also a good time to check for any wear and tare on your bit that might indicate an unhappy mouth that is chomping and chewing on the bit too much. If you find chew marks on your bit, you may want to consider trying an alternative style bit that your horse will find more comfortable.
