You may not know what a Dumb Jockey is. Neither did Goran and Gerda, so they checked. This is the information they found.
A dumb jockey is a harness for training horses that mimics the feel of having a rider on the horse’s back. Used in early training to accustom the horse to the feel of a rider allowing for weight on the saddle area and resistance similar to a rider using reins. Typically these were used more in Europe than in the USA.
A Dumb jockey consists of a saddle. Attached to the lower part side checks are fastened and two arms with elastic ends extending upward to which adjustable reins and crupper strap are fastened.
The Bowman Leather Dumb Jockey is hand made of beautiful quality materials in a small shop by a master craftsman using traditional methods and only the best materials available. All of the Bowman training equipment features the double bar buckle for extra strength.
The photo above shows the dumb jockey on a horse – This product DOES NOT COME WITH A BRIDLE, LONG LINES, A BREAST COLLAR OR TRACES. It does consist of:
- The surcingle with the T dumb jockey
- The crupper straps and crupper
- 4 sets of side reins
Available in horse or pony size.
Stainless Hardware ONLY.
Measuring For Your Harness
Please go to the Size Chart Page to watch a video showing how to measure.
We require measurements for EVERY HARNESS PURCHASE.
Our harnesses are guaranteed to fit. This means we need you to measure twice and order once. Or even better, measure three times and order once! We have a How To Measure Chart you can take to your horse to write down the measurements you get. We ask that you be as accurate as you can, without over thinking it or stressing about it. Mindy Schroder will be contacting you either through email or phone after you place your harness order, to confirm the measurements you gave. Here is a guide on to how to measure.
**We ask that you include the measurements for your harness in the Notes section of your order. After you click the Pay button, the next screen will have a place to write notes. That is the perfect place to give us any instructions about your harness as well!
